Axalta has also developed formulations to meet the growing demand for lighter weight vehicles that help save on fuel. Coatings provide automotive parts made of plastic and composites with aesthetically pleasing visual colour effects – matte, high-gloss, pearl and metallic - and can also provide protection against premature mechanical or thermal failure. Special formulations have been developed to ensure these coatings adhere to the latest substrate materials.

To achieve harmony our coatings are formulated to match perfectly with the rest of the vehicle. The flow and levelling of the plastic-coated part should eliminate imperfections such as excessive orange peel, pin holing or air bubbles. Technological durability is key. Axalta’s plastic coatings have demonstrated excellent adhesion, good scratch resistance and flexibility, and can be cured at lower temperatures to prevent damage to the plastic substrate during bake cycles.
