Axalta Hosts Refinishing Talent at WorldSkills Regional Competitions

Axalta has assisted WorldSkills Australia with 2022 regional competitions for vehicle refinishing students held in Sydney, Northern Rivers & Mid Coast (NSW), Melbourne and the Gold Coast, with the potential for a few more to be scheduled before the year is out.

The event in Queensland was organised and hosted by Axalta’s Queensland team, on 29 September at the Axalta Gold Coast Training Centre. Five apprentice spray painters put their skills to the test over a full day, producing a two-tone panel with design and decals along with a colour match to be completed in a set timeframe. The judges and staff on the day were left in awe of the competitors’ ability to follow instructions, handle pressure, and demonstrate their maturity during the duration of the day!

The Gold Medal was won by Bryson Kington of Brisbane Collision Centre, the Silver Medal went to Rhys Cannarella of Sommerville Smash Repairs, with the Bronze medal being awarded to Kaitlyne Lewis of MBQ Autobody. The three winners also walked away with brand new Sagola spray guns as prizes.

We congratulate all the competitors and thank the employers who allowed this group of five young adults to experience the opportunity of a WorldSkills competition.
